Special Diets Support Group – St. Mary’s County, Maryland

We are a group from St. Mary’s County, Maryland.

We meet at St Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD. 

Our leader is Teresa A. Andrasik, RNC and we meet on the first Thursday of each month from 7-9pm in the St. Mary’s Hospital. 

We are a group of people who have Celiac Disease, gluten sensitivities, and food allergies.

3rd Annual Greater Phoenix Gluten-free Expo – April 16, 2011

The Celiac Disease Foundation: Greater Phoenix Chapter will host its 3rd Annual Greater Phoenix Gluten-Free Expo on Saturday, April 16, 2011.  

This event is open to the public and gives people challenged with Celiac Disease, or those interested in transitioning to a gluten-free lifestyle, an opportunity to learn more about gluten-free products and where to purchase those products, as well as learning about local restaurants offering gluten-free menus.  In 2010, over 600 attendees and 37 vendors participated in the expo. This year promises to be even bigger, with an expected 800 guests and 50 vendors.

The expo will be held between 10 am and 2 pm at the following location:

Fox News Video: Boy with Autism Recovers After Gluten-free Casein-free Diet

Ethan Fox never slept more than two hours at a time.  He did not speak.  He ran continuously, day and night, until he would collapse from exhaustion.  After a short nap, he would awaken and run again. 

At one year of age, Ethan was diagnosed with autism.  At 20 months, after being written off by other physicians, he was placed on a gluten-free, dairy-free diet by Dr. Kenneth Bock, autism specialist and author of “What Your Family Needs To Know About Autism Spectrum Disorders.”

According to Ethan’s mother, Tracy Fox, results were seen within three days on a gluten-free, dairy-free diet. Ethan slept through the night, spoke his first words and has never had a problem since.  Now age 6, he is at the top of his class at school with a 97%  average…and virtually no one knows he was ever diagnosed with autism.

Twenty years ago, doctors told Jerry Shafir that his baby daughter, Kate, had celiac disease.

In 2007, when the FDA recommended a standard for gluten free foods, Shafir, who owns Kettle Cuisine, applied his expertise in the soup industry and experience in the celiac disease community to develop gluten-free versions, so Kate and everyone on a gluten-free diet could enjoy the same delicious, hearty and nutritious foods that other people take for granted.

The result was an impressive line of 10 different soups, chilies and chowders, six of which we tried – and loved: New England Clam Chowder, Angus Beef Steak Chili with BeansTomato Soup with Garden Vegetables, Thai Curry Chicken Soup, Chicken Chili with White Beans, and Chicken Soup with Rice Noodles. Seventy Percent of Canadians Support No Exemptions to Proposed Food Labelling Regulations for Allergic and Celiac Consumers

OTTAWA, Feb. 2 /CNW/ – Prime Minister Stephen Harper is being asked to act on the concerns of millions of Canadians with food allergies and celiac disease and listen to the advice of prominent national medical, consumer and health organizations and pass proposed federal food labelling regulations now. The Prime Minister is also encouraged to heed the results of a new public opinion poll showing close to 70% of Canadians want regulations to affect all pre-packaged food and beverages and not grant a special exemption for the beer industry.

GIG of Atlanta

GIG of Atlanta is a support group, serving Atlanta, its suburbs and North Georgia. The group is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Its members pay a small fee to belong. Members typically are people with Celiac Disease , Gluten Intolerance and/or Dermatitis Herpetiformis, their families and those exploring a gluten free lifestyle. The Atlanta Gluten-Free Dinner Club

We currently have 338 members and have held 84 meetups since October 2003

The purpose of this group is to share experience, strength, and laughter with other Celiacs while enjoying gluten free meals at area restaurants. Our dinners are lots of fun & a great way to learn tips and information about living gluten free! Sometimes our best resources are each other!

If you enjoy dining out and meeting new friends, then this group is for you! We are always looking for the best places to eat gluten free in the Atlanta area. We have more options now than ever before as restaurants learn how to accommodate a gluten free diet. The options for us grow every year! Things we thought we couldn’t have anymore (pizza, pasta, Asian cuisine, even fried food!) have once again become part of our diets.
