Tennis Star Novak Djokovic Is Gluten-Free and Even Cooks for Himself

496589-novak-djokovic-us-open-2016-afp[1]Novak Djokovic is a dominating force on the world tennis stage, having won 11 Grand Slam titles, 26 Masters and five world tour titles. Now he is playing in the 2016 US Open and ranked No. 1.

But in 2009, Djokovic thought his career was over, almost before it began. Plagued by fatigue, breathing difficulties and stomach spasms, Djokovic could barely get through a match.

A nutritionist, Dr. Igor Cetojevic, noticed his poor play and tested him for food sensitivities. Gluten, dairy, and tomatoes came up positive and Djokovic changed his diet to avoid those foods. Within two weeks, he started feeling better and more energetic. He grew leaner, stronger and the wins started piling up.  Read More »

Hodgson Mill Gluten Free Spaghetti with Flax

Hodgson-Mill-Gluten-Free-Spaghetti-Flax

My wife and I recently found a new pasta we really enjoy. Hodgson Mill Gluten Free Spaghetti with flax seed tastes great and is easy to cook. Boil shorter for al dente and longer for Chef Boy R Dee consistency.

Getting enough omega-3 fatty acids is important, but can be a challenge. Supplements like fish oil are available, but can be difficult digest.

General Mills Recalls Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios for Containing Wheat

cheerios recallGeneral Mills is voluntarily recalling several days of production of Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios cereal produced at its Lodi, California facility on certain dates in July of this year because of an undeclared allergen – wheat – with potential adverse health effects. Because this recall relates to an undeclared allergen, this is a Class I product recall.

Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios produced on these dates at the company’s Lodi, California facility are being recalled because an isolated incident resulted in wheat flour being inadvertently introduced into the gluten free oat flour system at its Lodi facility. As a result, the products may contain an undeclared allergen – wheat – in products labeled as gluten-free.

General Mills will recall and retrieve affected cereals produced on those dates from customer warehouses and store shelves. Consumers with wheat allergies, celiac disease or gluten intolerance should not Read More »

PUR Mints Review and $10 Coupon

PUR Mints are Gluten and Aspartame Free! And DELICIOUS!!!

Thank YOU, Kendall!

HUGE shout out to Kendall and the PUR Team for sending us samples of their new PUR Mints: Tangerine Tango, Spearmint, Polar Mint, Peppermint and the one I am currently enjoying – Mojito Lime Mint. The mints are gluten-free, aspartame-free and yummylicious! (They are also vegan, nut & soy free, diabetic friendly and non-gmo!)

PUR really promotes the fact that they do not use aspartame to sweeten their products. That’s a good thing. Aspartame is made from genetically modified e-coli, their feces in fact, and I was told it was produced in the same facility as Agent Orange. YUCK! Aspartame gives me migraines, so I stopped eating it even before I found out it was made from bacteria dung.

Instead, PUR uses xylitol, which is pretty smart considering xylitol creates a cooling effect in your mouth. I really like how the packets reseal, so you can save some for later…unless you eat them like candy like I do.  (Mmm. I just crunched into a Peppermint.)

Thanks again, Kendall. The mints are fantastic. I’ll definitely be making PUR my go to mints.

Oh, and Kendall was nice enough to send us a $10 Coupon for our Gluten Free Works Members to use on PUR’s website. Considering they have products for $4.99, you’re looking at FREE STUFF! Woohoo!!! Just enter the coupon code in the image below.  Read More »

Coconut cream pops Expo West

Coconut cream pops Expo West

Expo West is simply the best and the largest natural foods event in the United States. Each year the event grows in exhibitors and attendees and shows no signs of slowing down. One of the trends noted this year was the surge of vegan/gluten-free products, like bread, cheese, cheesecake, cookies, frozen desserts, macaroni and cheese, salad dressings, yogurt, etc.

Here are this Examiner’s top 20 gluten, dairy, and vegan product finds:

  • CoYo’s coconut milk yogurt hails from Australia and is made from coconut cream and natural flavors in four varieties: Natural, Mango, Mixed Berry, and Raw Chocolate. The berry and mango are incredibly creamy without a funny taste or texture and taste fantastic. This product debuted at Expo West 2014, but this was my first time trying it and color me impressed. Availability: In stores
  • Cosmo’s Dairy-Free Spicy Ranch is thick, rich, and mildly spicy. Made from coconuts, it works as a salad dressing, dip, and sandwich spread adding a nice kick to what would be ordinary. It does contain eggs, but is soy and nut free. Availability: Online for now
  • Daiya Foods, Inc. gets a nod for their new Cheezecakes and Cheezy Mac kits that are soy free and vegan. Available in three flavors, Deluxe Alfredo, Deluxe Cheddar, and Deluxe White Cheddar Veggie Medley, each kit comes with a bag of liquid cheezy sauce ready to be combined with cooked brown rice pasta.Their cheezecakes are also available in four flavors: New York, Chocolate, Key Lime, and Strawberry. Tips for Navigating and Getting the Most Out of Natural Products Expo West

natural-products-westThis will be the fifth year this Examiner is attending Expo West in Anaheim, California and each year is more productive, fun, and exciting than the last. Attending as a media representative for Examiner.com means that public relations firms send information on their client’s new gluten-free products in advance. It tends to make one a little giddy, to say the least, when learning about so many new and innovative gluten-free products.

Expo West is the largest natural products expos in the United States and one of the best places to launch a natural product. Last year it saw 2,568 vendors from 102 countries and more than 65,000 attendees. That represents a lot of square footage to walk, which is how the event can be overwhelming and utterly exciting at the same time.

Here are some great tips compiled over the years to make Expo West an enjoyable experience and a productive event: Read More »

Pizza Hut Launches Udi’s Pizza Sales Today!

My fiancee and I like to cook. We like being healthy and since we hate unnecessary pain and suffering, we avoid cross contamination.  As a result, we tend to eat mostly healthy, tasty, homemade meals.

While we love cooking, we have busy lives and hate cleaning up. Every once in awhile we both wish we could just order a pizza.  In fact, we were just talking about it the other day.

Pizza Hut must have heard us talking because they just launched their Udi’s Pizza Sales today! And they deliver!

Here is what Pizza Hut posted on its website today:

For some time, we’ve seen you guys do all sorts of unique and inventive things to eat pizza. From your special homemade version to cauliflower crusts to zucchini pizza boats, we’ve been impressed with your pizza spirit. But we knew you were still missing out on the simple joy of ordering pizza and having it arrive at your door. So we got together with our friends at Pizza Hut and came up with a solution.

Since we’ve shared this announcement, we’ve been listening to all of your feedback. We’re so happy to see your interest and anticipation, but we’ve also been tracking your biggest concerns and questions. Here are answers to some of the most common questions we are seeing.
