GlutenTox Home Test Kit

Cake Darla Gluten Free Works

There are many reasons people who wish to lead a healthier lifestyle chose to avoid gluten in their diets. Those with gluten allergies and intolerances, however, don’t have a choice. For them, consuming undetected gluten poses a real health risk. The trouble is that traces of gluten can be found in foods that don’t naturally contain it, due to cross-contamination, cooking methods, food additives, etc. This is especially true when it comes to restaurant and commercially processed food.

But the good news is that now there’s a way you can check to be sure what you’re eating is really gluten free. Boimedal Diagnostics has developed an easy-to-use gluten test kit, called GlutenTox Home, and they were nice enough to send me a sample pack to try. Along with a free Read More »

Hodgson Mill Gluten Free Spaghetti with Flax

Hodgson-Mill-Gluten-Free-Spaghetti-Flax

My wife and I recently found a new pasta we really enjoy. Hodgson Mill Gluten Free Spaghetti with flax seed tastes great and is easy to cook. Boil shorter for al dente and longer for Chef Boy R Dee consistency.

Getting enough omega-3 fatty acids is important, but can be a challenge. Supplements like fish oil are available, but can be difficult digest.

We like the flavor and the benefits of Read More »

Alternative Baking Company Gluten Free Cookies

Alternative Baking Company Gluten Free Cookies

This product update is long overdue and it is just the tip of the ice berg when it comes to new gluten-free product launches in 2014. Expo West is just a few weeks away and I can’t wait to be overwhelmed by gluten-free products. Gluten free is slated once again to be one of the top diet trends in 2014 and that means more gluten-free products are being developed. Hopefully, these new products will trend towards health food and won’t be loaded with fillers, sugar, salt, and artificial color/flavors.

Here is the first new-to-me gluten-free products installment of 2014: Read More »

iPHONE App scandal Rocks the Gluten-free Community

I reported this week on a new iPHONE application, My Grocery Master, which allows users to locate gluten-free foods and brands according to zip code. The application claimed to not only allow users to locate gluten-free and lactose-free food items in popular grocery stores nationwide, but it also claimed to help users locate the product via detailed driving directions, all for an annual fee of $4.99.

While this iPHONE application (also available for iPAD and iTOUCH) purported to aide gluten-free consumers in their quest for all things allergen-free, it seems the app isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Read More »

Joan’s GF Great Bakes New Product! Multi-Grain Gluten-Free English Muffins

Ilise Ratner Gluten Free Works

I love to do research!  And in the gluten free industry that means sampling gluten free food.

Today I am particularly happy to be sampling Joan’s GF Great Bakes products recently introduced to the market; specifically the multi-grain English muffins.  She is updating her delicious line, which includes bialy’s, Italian bread, bagels, English muffins, Scicilian pizza, corn toaster muffins, chocolate chip cookies and calzone, by adding double chocolate muffins, crumb cake, and multi-grain English muffins.

And Joan has really has done it again.  I am a proponent of healthy gluten free living and in large part those of us that are gluten intolerant (Celiac Disease, gluten sensitivity) have taken whole wheat out of our diets and are left with low-fiber, low-nutrient, dense food.  Joan’s multi-grain English muffins are made with 3 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber (amaranth, flax seed meal, organic buckwheat, and fortified with iron, vitamins A, B2, B6, B12, and D3, Calcium, Folic Acid) and Read More »

Kay’s Naturals Gluten Free Cookie Bites – Nutritious, Delicious & Satisfying

Gluten-free snack foods are often lamented to be nutritionally lacking as many are packed with sugar and empty starches. One company has consistently bucked the trend by providing tasty, healthy, nutrient-rich snack foods and cereals that are also low fat and high in fiber.

Kay’s Naturals has built their reputation on providing all natural, nutritionally balanced snacks that are also gluten-free.

Now the company is adding Kay’s Cookie Bites to its best-selling lines of gluten-free snack foods and cereals. The Cookie Bites come in two flavors, Cinnamon Almond Cookie Bites and Honey Almond Cookie Bites, and are available in 5 oz. boxes or 1.75 oz. snack bags.

Kay’s describes their Cookie Bites as ultra nutritious, totally delicious and absolutely satisfying.

We agree.

When we tasted them, we found them to be sweet, flavorful and crispy. Gluten-free, casein-free, protein rich, fiber rich and made from natural ingredients makes them a good (and worry-free) snack during work or travel and perfect for those times when you’re running late and need something more filling than crackers or carrot sticks. Kettle Cuisine Single Serve Soups: Gluten-free Goodness in a Bowl!

[Editor’s Note: Kettle Cuisine has since discontinued their line of frozen soups. You can read more about their decision by clicking here

All gone…we love our job!

Twenty years ago, doctors told Jerry Shafir that his baby daughter, Kate, had celiac disease.

In 2007, when the FDA recommended a standard for gluten free foods, Shafir, who owns Kettle Cuisine, applied his expertise in the soup industry and experience in the celiac disease community to develop gluten-free versions, so Kate and everyone on a gluten-free diet could enjoy the same delicious, hearty and nutritious foods that other people take for granted.

The result was an impressive line of 10 different soups, chilies and chowders, six of which we tried – and loved: New England Clam Chowder, Angus Beef Steak Chili with BeansTomato Soup with Garden Vegetables, Thai Curry Chicken Soup, Chicken Chili with White Beans, and Chicken Soup with Rice Noodles. The soups are 10 ounces each and serve one person.

Taste, mouth-feel, aroma and ease of preparation surpassed expectations.

Kitchen+Table Gluten-Free Pizza Dough

A good gluten-free pizza crust can be hard to find. Sure, there are a variety of options out there these days, but it can be difficult to find a brand that is decently priced but doesn’t taste like cardboard.

I am happy to say that I have found a pizza dough mix that is reasonably priced, not too difficult to make, and tastes wonderful. There is no questioning that kitch+table pizza dough mix will please your palate. As the package states, incredibly easy and so crazy good that you may not believe it’s actually gluten-free. No false advertisement there. That statement is 100% the truth.

I had a kitch+table baking night this past weekend and my taste-buds had the time of their life. The plan was to make the kitch+table pizza dough for dinner and then the brownie mix for dessert. I mixed up the Read More »
