Pizza Hut Launches Udi’s Pizza Sales Today!

My fiancee and I like to cook. We like being healthy and since we hate unnecessary pain and suffering, we avoid cross contamination.  As a result, we tend to eat mostly healthy, tasty, homemade meals.

While we love cooking, we have busy lives and hate cleaning up. Every once in awhile we both wish we could just order a pizza.  In fact, we were just talking about it the other day.

Pizza Hut must have heard us talking because they just launched their Udi’s Pizza Sales today! And they deliver!

Here is what Pizza Hut posted on its website today:

For some time, we’ve seen you guys do all sorts of unique and inventive things to eat pizza. From your special homemade version to cauliflower crusts to zucchini pizza boats, we’ve been impressed with your pizza spirit. But we knew you were still missing out on the simple joy of ordering pizza and having it arrive at your door. So we got together with our friends at Pizza Hut and came up with a solution.

Since we’ve shared this announcement, we’ve been listening to all of your feedback. We’re so happy to see your interest and anticipation, but we’ve also been tracking your biggest concerns and questions. Here are answers to some of the most common questions we are seeing.

Porta Via Italian Kitchen: Best Gluten-Free Pizza??

Gluten Free Works Author Heather

I can’t believe that it has taken me this long to try Porta Via Italian Kitchen since hearing for the past year that they have amazing gluten-free pizza. But I’ve been leaning towards a high raw/vegan diet, so I’ve been less attracted to restaurants claiming to have the next best gf crust.  Yawn…

Having guests in town gave us the perfect opportunity to try Porta Via Italian Kitchen. I was astounded that they not only had gluten-free pizza, but gluten-free pasta as well.

Reformulated grilled chicken at Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A-logo-big

On April 14, Chick-fil-A introduced new and improved grilled chicken breast and nuggets to its lineup. This new grilled chicken is infused with a smoky taste by marinating it in a blend of sea salt, lemon, garlic, and savory herbs. According to the company, this technique creates a tender, juicy filet with just the right amount of smoky flavor.

According to the company, they spent seven years and more than $50 million to reinvent its grilled chicken recipe. The largest portion of the investment came as the company worked with Garland Grills to create a proprietary grill. This new grill sears the chicken on cast-iron grates like it was cooked on a backyard grill, only faster.

chick fil a nuggets gluten free“We started with a mission to create a best-in-class grilled sandwich, and after testing 1,200-plus recipes, we landed on a taste so remarkable that we decided to extend the flavor into a full grilled line,” said David Farmer, Chick-fil-A’s vice president of product strategy and development. “Our previous grilled entrees were good, but not remarkable. We wanted a grilled chicken recipe that is just as ‘craveable’ as our original Chick-fil-A® Chicken Sandwich.” Read More »

It has happened to most all of us at one time or another. You have just finished a meal at a restaurant when you notice you aren’t quite feeling right. For me, that starts with a stabbing headache and a hot flash. Immediately you know your meal has come into contact with gluten. Now what do you do? How can you turn your negative experience into a positive one? Read More »

Review: Shane’s Rib Shack – Gluten-free

Bouldin_Kimberly_Columbus_OH

I had the wonderful opportunity to try Shane’s Rib Shack the other night. I had known that Shane’s had a gluten-free menu, but had never dined there before.

Shane’s also has a number of sides that are gluten-free, including cole slaw, baked beans, corn, and salad. For healthier options, there are salads on the menu with brisket, grilled chicken or pork. On January 12th in participating U.S. Starbucks stores, customers saw a line of new snack options with 220 calories or less per serving. The exciting news about these snacks-on-the-go is that at least 8 of the 9 are gluten-free. These new snacks are:

The Gluten-Free Game of Clue

In the Game of Clue, players must solve the mystery of who killed Mr. Boddy, what they used to commit the crime, and where this occurred. A similar version of these three questions is something that gluten-free folks are used to finding out.

Who prepared the food?

What utensils did they use?

Where did they prepare it?

When I dine out, I’m always sure to remind the server, “They cannot prepare my sandwich on the same counter,” or when I’m at Chipotle, “Could you please change your gloves? I am gluten free.” These are comments that MUST be made in order to ensure safety and reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

I figured we’d have some fun and make a gluten-free version of this classic detective game because that’s what we all need to be – gluten-free detectives! When dining out, there are different places one can be glutened and there are different weaponsof contamination. No matter who did it, where it happened, or what caused the contamination, the end result is always the same – the victim is glutened.

Gluten-Free Game of Clue: How was I glutened?

The Olive Garden Offers Gluten Free Options

Trish_Deitemeyer_Exam_Pic

For better or worse, the Gluten Free lifestyle is gaining in popularity. While some in the community may bicker over its trendiness, one thing is for certain: bringing GF food into the mainstream is causing more and more restaurants and stores and manufacturers to sit up and take notice. There are more GF offerings at more locations than ever before.

OliveGarden(1)

One surprising addition has been The Olive Garden’s Gluten Free menu. Who would have thought that an almost strictly pasta restaurant would have GF offerings? Of course, you can always get their salad sans croutons, but now they have a GF pasta on their Garden Fare options menu. Pennine Rigate with Marinara is a hearty marinara sauce made from tomatoes, bell peppers, onions and herbs served over gluten free penne pasta. Read More »

Uno Chicago Grill Makes Gluten Free Eaters Happy

I’ve been gluten free since 2002, and I’m embarrassed to say that up until a few weeks ago, I hadn’t tried Uno Chicago Grill’s Gluten Free menu, which they’ve been offering for almost 2 years. Actually, the last time I was there, it was still called “Pizzeria Uno”. But recently, a bunch of us were stuck at Washington, DC’s Union Station for a couple of hours, and there just happened to be a Uno’s there, which seemed to be the only restaurant in the station offering gluten free foods.

I was pleasantly surprised. No – really, I was GIDDY! There was pizza! There was beer (Redbridge)! There was dessert! Read More »
