Gluten Free Diets May Reduce Autistic Behavior

The CDC’s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network released data in 2007 that found about 1 in 150 (8-year-old) children in multiple areas of the United States had an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The number of diagnosed cases of autism is on the rise; the reason(s) for this is unclear.   Autism knows no racial, ethnic or social boundaries.  Family income, lifestyle, and educational levels do not appear to affect the chance of occurrence.

Fortunately, dietary changes can make a significant change in people with autism.  Research is profound on the positive impact that a gluten and casein free diet can make on children with autism.  Gluten and/or casein free diets have been implemented to reduce autistic behavior, in addition to special education, since the early eighties {Autism, Vol. 3, No. 1, 45-65 (1999)}.  The scientific studies include Read More »

Uno Chicago Grill Makes Gluten Free Eaters Happy

I’ve been gluten free since 2002, and I’m embarrassed to say that up until a few weeks ago, I hadn’t tried Uno Chicago Grill’s Gluten Free menu, which they’ve been offering for almost 2 years. Actually, the last time I was there, it was still called “Pizzeria Uno”. But recently, a bunch of us were stuck at Washington, DC’s Union Station for a couple of hours, and there just happened to be a Uno’s there, which seemed to be the only restaurant in the station offering gluten free foods.

I was pleasantly surprised. No – really, I was GIDDY! There was pizza! There was beer (Redbridge)! There was dessert! Read More »

Kay’s Naturals Gluten Free Cookie Bites – Nutritious, Delicious & Satisfying

Gluten-free snack foods are often lamented to be nutritionally lacking as many are packed with sugar and empty starches. One company has consistently bucked the trend by providing tasty, healthy, nutrient-rich snack foods and cereals that are also low fat and high in fiber.

Kay’s Naturals has built their reputation on providing all natural, nutritionally balanced snacks that are also gluten-free.

Now the company is adding Kay’s Cookie Bites to its best-selling lines of gluten-free snack foods and cereals. The Cookie Bites come in two flavors, Cinnamon Almond Cookie Bites and Honey Almond Cookie Bites, and are available in 5 oz. boxes or 1.75 oz. snack bags.

Kay’s describes their Cookie Bites as ultra nutritious, totally delicious and absolutely satisfying.

We agree.

When we tasted them, we found them to be sweet, flavorful and crispy. Gluten-free, casein-free, protein rich, fiber rich and made from natural ingredients makes them a good (and worry-free) snack during work or travel and perfect for those times when you’re running late and need something more filling than crackers or carrot sticks.
