Unilever Issues Allergy Alert on Wheat in a Limited Number of Tubs of Breyers® Ice Cream

breyers_icecreamUnilever United States, Inc., of Englewood Cliffs, NJ, in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is voluntarily recalling a limited number of tubs of Breyers® ice cream because it was mispackaged and may contain undeclared wheat. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat run the risk of allergic reaction if they consume this product.

On a limited number of tubs, the lid describes the product as “Breyers® All Natural Cookies & Cream” ice cream, and the tub portion of the package describes the product as “Breyers® All Natural Mint Chocolate Chip” ice cream. The product inside of the tub is “All Natural Cookies & Cream.” The ingredient statement on the tub does not declare wheat, which is an ingredient of the Cookies & Cream product. Read More »

Van’s International Foods is recalling “Van’s All Natural Wheat Free
Homestyle Pancakes”
due to undeclared egg, milk, and wheat.

The product was distributed in Arizona, California, the District of
Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Washington.

The 12.4-oz. package bears lot number 200060629B1, UPC 0-89947-60604-9, and “best if used by” date of March 30, 2010.

Consumers may return the product to the place of purchase for a full
refund. Consumers with questions may call (303) 848-6013 or e-mail

Although it is unfortunate that the products were contaminated with gluten, it is very responsible of Vans International Foods to recall their product.

Spelt Bread Recall by Food For Life Baking Company

Food For Life Baking Company of Corona, California is voluntarily recalling 2,241 cases of Spelt Bread (UPC# 07347200168) because they contain spelt grain which is known to be a hybrid of wheat. People who have allergies to wheat or those with Celiac Disease may run the risk of a serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume spelt products.
The recalled products were sold nationwide through health food distributors and natural food retailers.

Food For Life Spelt Bread is sold frozen in a 24 oz. (680g) light blue package and bears either of the two following descriptions

Food For LIfe, Wheat Alternative Spelt Bread
Food For Life, Fruit Juice Sweetened Spelt Bread
Affected lot numbers are: H1847, H2042, H2136, H2435, H2872, H2974, H3224, H3460, I0485.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated as a precautionary measure following an FDA investigation concluding that the product contained undeclared wheat.

This recall is being made with the knowledge and in cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration.

Consumers who have purchased any of these products are urged to return them unopened to the place of purchase for a refund.
