Gluten-free Halloween Candy Lists and Recipes

Gluten Free Works Jennifer Harris

gluten-free-halloween-candyHalloween is quickly approaching and it is important to take time to decorate the house, buy a costume, find gluten-free recipes to bake, and determine which candies are gluten free. We tend to give out gluten-free candies at our house because there are so many great ones from which to choose.  More and more companies are labeling their candy gluten free, but remember it is important to read the labels on all of the candy bags as ingredients do tend to change.

If you are in doubt of a specific candy’s status, go to the company’s website and check their gluten-free list, or you can call their 800 number for further clarification. Remember not all of these gluten-free candies are made in a dedicated facility, so be sure to read the disclaimer located on the package and make the choice that is right for your child.

Listed below are the gluten-free Halloween lists we found online. Read More »

Kitchen Table Bakers Parmesan Crisps Gluten Free

Nine Varieties of Kitchen Table Bakers' Parmesan Crisps

Many snacks are labeled “cheese,” but only Kitchen Table Bakers’ Parmesan Cheese Crisps can rightfully claim this title. They are, after all, made from 100% parmesan cheese.

That’s right. While other companies use a bit of cheese to flavor their products, Kitchen Table Bakers delivers the tastiest cheese as the whole part for you to savor.

We tested all nine product flavors: Aged Parmesan, Rosemary, Jalapeno, Basil Pesto, Sesame, Flaxseed, Italian Herb, Everything, and Garlic. We also tried the Aged Parmesan mini crisps.

Our take – Kitchen Table Bakers’ Parmesan Crisps are a unique gourmet indulgence and totally satisfying.

About the Cheese Crisps:

We first met Barry Novick, the president of Kitchen Table Bakers, at a Celiac Disease event being held at Columbia University in 2005. He had recently started his business. As attendees raved about the taste of his cheese crisps, he proudly described how his products were made from the best all natural parmesan cheese and were 100% gluten-free. Like many in the gluten-free industry, Barry became involved to improve his own health. This makes him just as passionate about the safety of his products as he is about the flavor.

Kitchen Table Bakers’ Gourmet Parmesan Crisps are:

  • Made from 100% aged parmesan cheese.
  • Low in carbohydrates, less than 1 gram per serving.
  • All natural – no preservatives.
  • Sugar-free, gluten-free, wheat-free.
  • Low in calories (70-80 calories per serving).
  • Contain no Read More »

Gluten-free Biscotti Recipe

Gluten free biscottiThis is often how things work with me. I decide at some point that I want something. Pizza, cookies, a madeleine…and since I’m eating a gluten-free diet, I can’t always go to the store to buy it. Or, maybe I can but it’s not always good.

So it was, that day, when I really wanted a good biscotti. Believe it or not, I’ve never even made them, even with gluten! The next part of the journey began with finding the right recipe.

I wasn’t in the mood for lemon pecan or orange walnut. I didn’t want chocolate either. Cinnamon almond was coming to mind so that’s what I decided to Read More »

Gluten Free Review: Mix1 Strawberry Banana Protein Shake

Mix1 Strawberry Vanilla Gluten Free

As a runner I have learned the importance of properly fueling my body.

Skimping on calories & nutrients hurts performance and can hurt your body, too. Carbohydrates are important to supply muscles with glycogen for exercise and a snack of protein & carbs is important after running to help refuel & repair muscles. It imperative to begin this process as soon as possible after a run, but absolutely within 30 minutes.

I have been a little lax on refueling recently, but that has to stop. My current,soon-to-be history, routine for my long runs involved meeting up with my MIT group, running, socializing, driving home (with a coffee detour) and then eating breakfast. By the time I was actually sitting down to eat it was easily 1+ hours later. Not good.

Last week I shared my plan of action for better training with you guys. I am taking it seriously and am now going to include these Mix 1 Protein Shakes in the Saturday routine to see how they work for me. Read More »

Wild Alice Gluten Free BarsI was recently sent a sample of Wild Alice Bars, which are gluten free and vegan. I was sent the apricot cashew and cranberry walnut flavors, the latter being my favorite.

I took the cranberry walnut bar with me while snowboarding in Tahoe last weekend and it was a lifesaver. The snow was perfect so I didn’t want to waste time going inside to eat and, Read More »

Gluten-Free Strawberry Heart Rice Crispie Bar Recipe

Heart-shaped gluten-free strawberry rice crispie bars make a lovable Valentine’s Day treat!

I used freeze-dried unsweetened strawberries (purchased at Costco) but if you can’t locate this ingredient, substitute with your favorite dried fruit. Dried cherries or cranberries would look equally great in this Valentine’s Day-inspired recipe.
