I ate a lot this weekend. Way too much actually…in a good way.
For my Dad’s birthday dinner, my mom and I made Ina Garten’s God-sent Truffled Macaroni & Cheese. Despite the loan she had to take out to buy the truffle butter and exotic mushrooms, it was by far the best mac n’ cheese ever.
Let’s just say, it’s going to be rough getting used to plain ‘ol mac n’ cheese after that eye opening experience.
Now, I’m not advocating going into debt over truffle butter, but if anything is worth over spending, this recipe is it.

The Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act passed in 2004 and it required the FDA to set gluten-free labeling legislation by 2008, but here we are in October 2012 with no finalized gluten-free labeling legislation. There is now an open petition on the White House website asking the Obama administration to finalize gluten-free labeling now.

It’s almost any kid’s favorite time of year…Halloween is just around the corner. For most kids, the costumes and the candy are unlimited; however, for children with gluten-sensitivities or Celiac Disease, Halloween can be dangerous. 


I was not able to go to Expo East this year, so I have been researching blogs and tweets to see what gluten-free products got some buzz. After researching, I didn’t find a whole lot of new products that weren’t introduced earlier in the year at Expo West (sister show in California), but there were some interesting ones.
Every day those of us who are gluten intolerant or sensitive need to read labels and ask questions when it comes to food. Gluten pops up in unexpected places that sometimes even shock me, so it is never safe to assume a dish/product is safe. I have previously written about unexpected sources of gluten, so this article serves as a follow up.

I just learned about two new support groups for those on the gluten-free diet in Statesville, NC and Tri Cities/Johnson City, TN. The two new groups are:

As we’ve discussed, everything is better in mini form.
Except portions of gourmet mac n cheese. Always take the big dish of that stuff. It’s not everyday that you will come across a heaping portion of creamy, cheesy, black truffle-y, mac n cheese.
