A gland located in the upper abdomen that makes the hormone insulin, which it releases it into the bloodstream for the purpose of controlling blood glucose levels, and also produces enzymes and fluids which it releases into the duodenum (digestive tract) for the purpose of digesting fats, carbohydrates and proteins.
