Semin Clin Neuropsychiatry. 1996 Oct; 1(4):304-314.\">1<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>What Is Apathy In Celiac Disease and\/or Gluten Sensitivity?<\/h2>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Apathy as an atypical psychological symptom in celiac disease that manifests long before the onset of other symptoms of Celiac Disease.<a href=\"#footnote_2_662\" id=\"identifier_2_662\" class=\"footnote-link footnote-identifier-link\" title=\"Bosseckert H. The effects of nutrients on mood. blic Health Nutr. 1999 Sep;2(3A):403-9.\">3<\/a> Here is a rundown of common relationships:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul class=\"cp_check red\">\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Iron deficiency anemia<\/strong><\/span> impairs the ability of\u00a0blood to oxygenate the body.\u00a0Impaired oxygen to the brain results in impaired cognition (lowered intellect), while impaired oxygen to muscles causes weakness and fatigue.\u00a0So the apathy in anemia is related to not having the mental ability to care about or the physical ability to perform normal activities.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Copper deficiency<\/strong> <\/span>is a cause of iron deficiency anemia because copper is essential for the formation of hemoglobin and red blood cell production and stimulates the absorption of iron through the copper transport protein ceruloplasmin.
