In\u00a0the small intestine, food proteins are broken down into small units called peptides by protease enzymes secreted by the pancreas.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Peptides are then completely broken down into their constituent amino acids in the intestinal lining itself by enzymes\u00a0called dipeptidases. This is an expensive way to get energy that should be coming from carbohydrates and fats<\/em>.\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/div>\n<ul class=\"cp_check green\">\n<li><em><span style=\"color: #800000\"><span class=\"dropcap\"><strong>6<\/strong><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #800000\">Other Supplements That Deplete or Interfere With Absorption:<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><div class=\"box shadow\"><div class=\"box-inner-block\"><i class=\"tieicon-boxicon\"><\/i>\n\t\t\t\n<ul class=\"cp_bullet red\">\n<li>Check with your pharmacist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/div>\n<h2>Medical Research Findings On Amino Acid Deficiency In Celiac Disease and\/or Gluten Sensitivity:<\/h2>\n<h4><strong>RESEARCH STUDY SUMMARIES<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>\u201cAmino acid and peptide absorption in patients with celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis.\u201d <\/strong>This small early study investigating absorption of dietary protein in patients with celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis showed that malabsorption of dietary protein is unlikely to occur in dermatitis herpetiformis but may occur and contribute to protein deficiency seen in some severe cases of adult celiac disease.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">A double-lumen perfusion technique was used to study amino acid and peptide absorption in 8 normal control subjects, 13 patients with untreated adult celiac disease, and 16 patients with dermatitis herpetiformis who had varying morphological abnormalities of the small bowel. All subjects were perfused with isotonic solutions containing 10 mM glycyl-L-alanine and 10 mM glycine + 10 mM L-alanine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Patients with adult celiac disease had impaired absorption of glycine (p &lt; 0.01) and L-alanine (p &lt; 0.05) from the amino acid solution compared with the control subjects. Amino acid uptake from the dipeptide solution was not significantly impaired, although four individual patients had impaired uptake of both amino acids. In contrast to these findings, very few patients with dermatitis herpetiformis had impaired amino acid absorption from either solution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Sodium absorption was impaired from both solutions when the groups of patients with adult coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis with subtotal villous atrophy and partial villous atrophy were studied, and there were patients in each group who secreted sodium and water. The impairment of sodium and water absorption provides evidence that there may be functional impairment of the jejunal mucosa in dermatitis herpetiformis as well as in adult celiac disease.<a href=\"#footnote_6_3312\" id=\"identifier_10_3312\" class=\"footnote-link footnote-identifier-link\" title=\"Silk DB, Kumar PJ, Perrett D, Clark ML, Dawson AM. Intestinal damage at follow-up was absent in only 43.6% and EMA were present in the serum of 24.9%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In patients with noncontrolled celiac disease, albumin protein level in long-term treatment was low and\/or lower than pretreatment and correlated with the presence of intestinal damage.<a href=\"#footnote_7_3312\" id=\"identifier_11_3312\" class=\"footnote-link footnote-identifier-link\" title=\"Ciacci C, Cirillo M, Cavallaro R, Mazzacca G.
