According to our About.com Guide to French Food beef burgundy, or boeuf Bourguignon, is the ultimate slow-cooked comfort food. It is!

The earthy flavors in this simple dish transform run-of-the-mill beef stew into something truly special to be enjoyed with a warm slice of gluten-free bread and a glass of wine.

Our easy version of gluten-free beef burgundy is adapted from a recipe for “Burgundy Beef’ which appears in The Fannie Farmer Cookbook. Read More »

Gluten-free Beef Stew Recipe

gluten free beef stew recipeWhen the weather turns cool, I think comfort foods. With a busy day ahead, I knew my crock pot would come in handy. Once again, it delivered, even with a power outage toward the end of its cycle!

Here’s a delicious recipe for beef stew which I have converted to gluten-free. To make it “with gluten”, use regular flour instead of the white rice and potato starch. The process and seasonings are the same.

We are very lucky to have quality beef right down the road, from Markegard Family Grass-Fed. The test is in the taste which truly delivered. It wasn’t too greasy, either, and was very tender. Read More »

Gluten Free Recipe: Thanksgiving Leftover Turkey Sandwich

gluten-free thanksgiving leftover turkey sandwich

Thanksgiving Leftover Turkey Sandwich (c) 2011 Kimberly Bouldin

With the Thanksgiving holiday quickly approaching, I have been itching to find ways to eat the leftover turkey. I know this may seem odd,as there is no leftover turkey yet, but I am anticipating leftovers, as we have never not had them. I wanted to get creative this year and mix things up. Yeah, turkey soup and mashed potato bowls are great, but I wanted to create a unique turkey sandwich. I didn’t want anything complicated, just a different way to enjoy the Read More »

Beef & Broccoli {Take-Out-At-Home}

IMG_9063

I need a wok. Seriously. With the amount of Asian food that I make it amazes me that I do not own one. Someday.

My dad however has one, so we put it to use one night and made some gluten-free beef and broccoli. My dad is awesome for many reasons, but I love how good he is about gluten-free awareness and Read More »

Gluten Free Burrito Casserole Recipe

Finished burrito casserole; get the tortilla recipe in The Warm Kitchen

When you’re craving a burrito, is it really that gluten-containing tortilla  you’re after?  My guess is that it’s actually the hearty combination of fillings–the rice, beans, cheese, meat, etc. that got your mouth watering in the first place. Sure you could always make or buy gluten-free tortillas, but why not take a twist on the classic and ditch the burrito shell all together?

This recipe comes straight from my cookbook, The Warm Kitchen. This recipe is versatile, family-friendly and cooks up in about 20 minutes. Dinner is served!

Easy Tamale Pie: Gluten-free and Dairy-free

A few years ago, I made a version of tamale pie where I made tamale dough and put something in the middle (honest, I can’t remember; it might have been chili inside). I’m not sure why that went out of my rotation. More recently, I made a tamale pie as more of an experiment with black beans and salsa on the bottom and tamale dough on top. That was a huge hit. Grilled Shrimp Tacos with Corn and Black Bean Salsa

shrimp-0051I would grill all year-long if I could. This year we had so much crazy snow drifts that it was a bit impossible to do. I love my grill dearly…great flavors, you can grill pretty much anything, its outside with the sun and the fresh air, easy clean up, and less fats are used! We grill steaks, chicken, burgers, hot dogs, hot sausages, shrimp, fish, pizza, and veggies…tons of veggies! Last year I bought one of those little grill baskets for I think $3.00 and it works like a charm, especially for mushrooms.

Last week we got the tank refilled and have used it quite a bit since. We are both trying to get in better shape and eat healthier (a follow-up post to my I’m on a mission…post will appear soon, I promise!). So the grill comes in very handy for Read More »

Gluten Free Veggie and Meat Chili Recipe

Amy’s Chili…mmmmm! :)

This is a variation of a “veggies on the verge” soup. When you make chili, it’s a good way to use up some of those vegetables in the fridge you are not sure what to do with. Go ahead and throw in carrots, sweet potatoes and celery if you have it. It will all taste good once it’s cooked. The extra vegetables are not necessary but certainly add nutrients to the mix. You can also use this recipe to make tamale pie.

Read through the recipe first; it’s easier to chop the onion and while that cooks, chop the other vegetables, hardest vegetables first to softest last. Serve it by itself, over brown rice, or even polenta for a complete Read More »
