Product Review: Pillsbury’s Gluten-free Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

pilsbury choc chip gluten free

When I was first diagnosed with celiac disease the first thing I thought about missing was chocolate chip cookies. My grammy made the most incredible chocolate chip cookies and the thought of not being able to eat them made me sad, so I began my quest to make gluten-free chocolate chip cookies just like grammy’s, and I didn’t stop until I succeeded. When Pillsbury introduced their chocolate chip cookie dough, I thought there was no way they could be as good as my grammy’s, but I was wrong.

The first thing that struck me about the chocolate chip cookie dough was its smell and its texture. It smelled just like my cookie dough and it was really easy to work with and not sticky, like I had expected. The dough doesn’t spread like typical cookie dough, so press it down slightly before baking. Other than that tip, just spoon it out and pop a tray into the oven for warm, gooey cookies in minutes.

I baked the cookies on my Silpat liner for 10 minutes and let them cool on the tray for a couple of minutes to set. The cookies bake up nice and brown and they are soft and gooey in the middle and crunchy on the edges, which is my favorite texture. My daughter and my Italian daughter just love them and gobble them down. My chocolate chip cookie eating husband proclaimed them the best gluten-free version he had ever tasted and went on to say they didn’t taste gluten free, which is HIGH praise from him. We keep this cookie dough on hand and bake cookies whenever the mood suits.

Now, I can tell friends and family to pick up a tub and bake them for me when I come to visit. Of course we are talking about cookies here, so they are high in both sugar and calories, so enjoy them in moderation. The gluten-free Pillsbury doughs (Pie and Pastry and Thin Crust Pizza too) can be found in the dairy section of most grocery stores.

  1. Oh my family and I love the chocolate chip cookies, but haven’t found the other gluten free products so I unable to comment on them.

  2. The chocolate chip cookies are amazing! I take them out of the tub, roll into a “log” and cool, than slice for the same size cookies! You can freeze the slices and bake just a couple this way too!

  3. Love it better than any other cookie :)

  4. They made my daughter sick, kindof thought the dough must have been cross contaminated possibly.

  5. I haven’t tried the cookie ones yet but I have tried the pizza crust and I swear
That it made the best gluten free pizza that I’ve ever tried. No joke. It wasnt hardier cardboard like some of the ones I’ve tried. It wasnt flaky like others I’ve tried. It was delicious and looked like a normal pizza. Lol When I have time to go shopping this week I’m buying the cookie one cause I crave chocolate cookies all the time and its hard on the gluten free diet but I’m excited to try some.
