Gluten Free Product Review: Sweet Potato Fries at Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A-sweet-potato-fries

Crunchy on the outside! Creamy on the inside!

Back in May Chick-fil-A added sweet potato waffle fries to their menu. The sweet potato fries are still in development, so they are just gathering feedback at this time, which also means they are only available in select locations.

Unfortunately, they were not available anywhere in Atlanta, but you can get them until August 31st at Chick-fil-A in Athens, GA.

Chick-fil-A is a great place to get fast food if you are on the gluten-free diet because their waffle fries are fried in separate oil from their chicken. This process makes them gluten free and it also means their sweet potato fries are gluten free as well.  While visiting our in-laws this weekend we stopped by Chick-fil-A to sample the new sweet potato fries and boy are they worth the drive.
The fries are slightly sweet and creamy on the inside with a nice crunch from the crinkles on the outside.  They are not greasy, but they are dense and they are not as crunchy as the regular waffle fries.  We prefer them over the traditional waffle fries mainly because Chick-fil-A is one of the few places to offer gluten-free fries and we are just tired of the regular waffle fries.  We also prefer them because we really love sweet potatoes.

So why the addition of fries made from sweet potatoes? “It is one of our most requested items after the spicy chicken sandwich and the milkshakes,” says Mark Baldwin, Senior Public Relations Consultant for Chick-fil-A. “We try to answer all customer requests.”  In my opinion, the sweet potato fries are a great healthful addition to the menu and one we hope becomes a permanent addition soon.
Have you tried the sweet potato fries at Chick-fil-A?  What did you think?

    My 2 cents worth:
Big issue with the cross contamination with regular fried. Have you ever looked at their menu nothing is safe for gluten free. Who knows what the chicken is made from. I went into a Chik Fila just to see, nothing is safe not even the salads. I aske the counter person if they had anything gluten free and they said well we have white bread! Ok long time before it is something for gluten free’rs! Proceed with caution.

I recently order a chicken sandwich from them and even though I request no bun it had a bun I was so angry…

I would never in a million years buy anything at Chick-fil-A, but I’m glad their providing their bigoted customers something gluten-free. Genuinely glad. I agree with Rob. Nothing is safe in a fast food restaurant. You have no idea if the person giving you the information is even aware what gluten is.
