This video provides an interview with Shannon Ford, winner of the 2011 Mrs. United States pageant. An advocate for the Celiac Disease Foundation, Ford adopted a gluten-free diet after first being diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2009.
Ford's story is similar to many others' who are now gluten free, and she hopes to broaden the knowledge of Celiac Disease and gluten sensitivity. Ford has used her celebrity platform to help support causes like gluten-free labeling and fitness.
I have never viewed being on a gluten and dairy-free diet as restrictive. Of course there are many foods I can’t have, but there are many more foods I can enjoy. However, more so than I did before I went gluten-free I get in phases where I feel like I’m eating the same foods. This is especially true since I have had to restrict my diet even more due to acid reflux.
When my parents came up last time my mom brought me two 1lb containers of ground turkey. I had made a meatloaf with one and had been enjoying the frozen turkey burgers my mom had made, but with my last
Effective today, over 500 locations of Chuck E Cheese restaurants will begin offering two GFCO certified gluten-free options for those visitors following a gluten-free diet. It takes a little planning ahead to guarantee a great Thanksgiving. In many ways, it’s easier if you’re hosting, because you know what you can and can’t have. As of 2011, ALL of the companies I called did have gluten-free turkeys, except Tofurky, which has gluten. Check out my gluten-free turkey list for 2011, which has manufacturer contact info.
If you’re not hosting Thanksgiving at your house, talk to your host as soon as you can. You’ll need to talk about:
* Broth used for basting
* Stuffing in the
When I was little I loved American Girl dolls. It seems like yesterday that I was picking out my first doll, after my “Twin Doll” sadly lost her head four times. I can remember my mom suggesting I get Samantha because she was the one that looked closest to me. However, the doll I chose was Molly because she had glasses just like me. I loved that doll, I read all the books which went along with her; even dressed up as Molly for Halloween one year.
One year we threw a birthday party for Molly. My mom being the creative person she is went all out! We made homemade headbands; an idea from one of my American Girl Magazines and ate dishes of food that Molly would have enjoy during the era in which she lived. It’s one of those childhood memories I won’t forget.
Over break I received eggs from Pete & Gerry’s Organic Eggs; a company I met at this year’s summer Food Fete. My brother laughed when he asked what was in the package and I excitedly responded
