July 26th, 2013 by Laura Hanley

how to give up gluten

The longest relationship I have ever ended is the one I had with gluten. After 19 years of a wheat-filled, breadstick-loving life, I was beginning a new chapter. I was going to be challenged by the changes I was about to make, but I knew they would only make me a better person when it was all said and done. But, before you reach the I’m better off without them part of a break up, you have to go through A LOT of crappy emotions, otherwise known as the 5 Stages of Grief: (more…)

Sweet Summer Salmon Recipe

July 25th, 2013 by Candice Rose Clifford

It’s been a hot summer these past few days in NY. When the heat is beaming, one of my favorite kinds of meals to enjoy is fish on the grill because it doesn’t leave me feeling heavy.

To me, summer is all about enjoying fresh ingredients. Fruit and veggies are at their prime and I always look forward to the first long island corn on the cob. I think my family would honestly be happy eating watermelon every night for dinner; this being a summer tradition I also love.

Regardless of the season, I truly believe in trying to eat clean. My body is living proof that you are what you eat, and with my active lifestyle I believe (more…)

gluten free coconut butter

I’ve only recently started using coconut butter in my raw foods recipes, but I’ve used coconut oil for years. It took me a while to figure out what the coconut butter hype was about, because I thought that coconut butter and coconut oil were the same thing. They are NOT. gluten free college cafeteriaWe all know how "gluten-free" is a buzz word now. It seems it is easier than ever to find "gluten-free" labeled packaging at the local grocery store chain. Restaurants are labeling more food "gf" to try and attract more customers. But is this helping us? Or is it making more people just roll their eyes?

I get so excited when I see places near me offering "gluten-free" donuts, or "gluten-free" fries, or "gluten-free" pizza, and when anything on their menu is specifically labeled gluten-free. Abokado: Gluten Free Sushi in London

June 19th, 2013 by Petra Aitken

We were having a discussion at work a couple of weeks ago about how it’s very hard to find good sushi that doesn’t cost you an arm and leg in London.

Sliced duck sushiThen out of chance I stumbled across abokado the other day. I was looking for a small (cheap) snack to last me until I got home from my morning of sightseeing and so thought I’d go in and check the place out. (more…)
