A recently published study appearing in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, “Limited availability and higher cost of gluten-free foods,” found that gluten-free versions of wheat-based foods cost, on average from 76% to a whopping 518% more. Ouch!

The good news is that there are lots of ways you can cut your gluten-free grocery bill, while staying healthy on a gluten-free diet. Two of my favorite ways to lower my gluten-free food costs include (more…)

Sunflower Seed and Kale Pesto

Sunflower Seed and Kale Pesto

I ate a lot this weekend. Way too much actually…in a good way.

For my Dad’s birthday dinner, my mom and I made Ina Garten’s God-sent Truffled Macaroni & Cheese. Despite the loan she had to take out to buy the truffle butter and exotic mushrooms, it was by far the best mac n’ cheese ever.

gluten overweight weight gainLately, it seems like more and more celebrities and professional athletes are openly talking about going gluten free. Whether it’s due to a diagnosis of celiac disease or a gluten sensitivity, or simply because they want to get healthy, many of them have noted a weight loss as part of the benefits they’ve been seeing. Then why is it, that so many doctors and specialists will dismiss a diagnosis of celiac disease in a patient simply because the patient is not underweight?

In a recent article by Sonia Kupfer, MD, the belief that people with un-diagnosed celiac disease are all underweight is revealed to  (more…)

I Got Glutened and It’s My Own Fault!

October 10th, 2012 by Petra Aitken

no glutenI sit here writing this post from my bed. It’s 9:39pm and I have been in bed since 4:30pm. My tonsils are so big it hurts to swallow and I feel like I have been in a boxing match where I lost, severely.

I used to get sick like this all the time before I was diagnosed with coeliac disease and I am starting this think that my immune system is a wreck again.

Why? Because I have been slack. Many of those out there with coeliac disease will think I am stupid. I am stupid.

You see at my current job we have staff cafe. (more…)

Fall is here! My favorite time of year. At school we have a Starbucks on each campus I see everyone enjoying the pumpkin muffins, pumpkin coffees etc. and it drives me crazy that I can just run in and grab one of those delicious looking muffins with the cream cheese on them… (more…)

New gluten-free products flavor of Kale Chips from Brad’s Credit: Brad’s Raw Foods

I was not able to go to Expo East this year, so I have been researching blogs and tweets to see what gluten-free products got some buzz. After researching, I didn’t find a whole lot of new products that weren’t introduced earlier in the year at Expo West (sister show in California), but there were some interesting ones. (more…)
