Gluten-free Round Up: Product and Restaurant News of the Week

The world of gluten-free is just bursting with news this month.  It almost seems like there is more going on this month than the last quarter of 2010.  Great new for the gluten-free community, but it definitely makes it harder to keep up with the onslaught of new information.

Listed below is the gluten-free news this Examiner has heard about this past week.

  • Breads from Anna is getting ready to launch two new gluten-free mixes: Black Bean Brownie and Pizza Crust.  More details can be found here.

  • Kikkoman’s new gluten-free soy sauce is a Tamari-style soy sauce brewed with rice instead of wheat. Take note, though, that the sodium content (960 mg per one-tablespoon serving) is high compared with reduced-sodium, gluten-free soy sauces produced bySan-JLa Choy and Kari-Out.  Thanks for Gluten Free Philly for the information.

Gluten-free Round Up..Product, Grocery Store and Restaurant News of the Week

It is so fun to pass on all the new information learned about gluten-free products, shopping and dining.  The list below reflects what this Examiner learned over the last week.

  • Thanks go out to The Crispy Cook for compiling a list of gluten-free blogs with links to each one.  After reviewing the list, this Examiner discovered a number of blogs to check out and is excited to see what they have to offer.
  • Artisan gluten-free breads are now available from A Bountiful Harvest in a number of flavors.  Their breads are baked one loaf at a time naturally without artificial flavors, colorants, preservatives or additives and they are fresh baked to order for each Read More »

Top 10 Gluten-free Baked Goods a Restaurant Brunch Menu Should Offer

Breakfast is one of the easiest meals to make at home, but it also the one this Examiner used to enjoy ordering out.  It seems now that breakfast is the one meal with limited gluten-free choices, so we tend to eat this meal at home.  Who can afford to spend more than $10 for eggs, bacon and potatoes when they can be prepared at home for a fraction of the cost.

Brunch menus tend to vary, but when we go out to brunch we are looking for more than just egg dishes, meat, potatoes and fruit.  A traditional brunch menu should offer a gluten-free version of what you would normally expect: pancakes, toast, French toast, eggs Benedict, Read More »

Dip into some gluten-free delights at The Melting Pot

I’ll admit it – sometimes all I want to have for dinner is some fruit, cheese, and if I’m feeling extra adventurous, chocolate.  But fresh fruit dipped in chocolate and other savory items dipped in cheese?  Now you’re talking.

The Melting Pot is a delightful fondue restaurant that offers you all the cheese and chocolate until your heart’s content (they offer other yummy items too).  And now they have a special gluten-free menu, so you don’t have to worry about cross-contamination.

In a cheesy mood?  The Spinach Artichoke or Wisconsin Trio (request that the fondue be made with cornstarch) are must-haves.  The vegetables and apple slices provided are perfect dipping accompaniments. Read More »

Wendy’s Updates Gluten-free Menu Again (Updated 6/24/2014)

Back in February I wrote an article on Wendy’s updated gluten-free menu.  I wrote the article mainly because they removed a lot of the salads that had previously been listed as gluten-free.  The menu has been updated again.  Fast food restaurants tend to change offerings based on the season, so I applaud Wendy’s for keeping us informed.

The current gluten-free menu for Wendy’s can be viewed here.  The Baja Salad has been added to the gluten-free list.  This salad contains much of the same ingredients that the Southwest Taco Salad did or does.  While the gluten-free menu still lists the Southwest Taco Salad, the regular online menu does not.
