I asked a few celiac friends if they had noticed a change in Udi's bread. They all answered with the same statement; "Yes, it's full of holes!"  I emailed Udi's a few times, but never heard back from them. So I did what all good little bloggers do and posted a picture on my blog.

Hamburger Helper is No Longer Gluten-free!!

It has been a little over a year since General Mills launched gluten-free Hamburger Helper and already it has been changed.

Hamburger Helper will no longer be gluten free because it is going to be processed in a different manufacturing facility that cannot be guaranteed to be free from cross contamination.  The newly processed Hamburger Helper will not have the 'gluten free' label, but will be labeled "may contain wheat".

I never tried any of the varieties of gluten-free Hamburger Helper because the flavor options weren't all that interesting to me, they were loaded with salt and it is frankly (more…)

Gluten free soft pretzelsThere is just something about a warm, soft pretzel that reminds me of my youth.  Watching the Cubs play at Wrigley Field, enjoying the circus, or attending an amusement park just seemed better when you munched on a pretzel. Thanks to the good folks at Kim and Scott's Gourmet Pretzels now there is a frozen gluten-free pretzel to fill the void. (more…)

Gluten-free tacosWe shop at Trader Joe's at the Forum about once a week and we are always scanning the aisles to see what gluten-free products we can find.  On a recent trip we discovered their taco seasoning mix.  It has a 'g' on the front of the package and it is only .79 cents a pack, so we decided to give it a try. All gone...we love our job!

Twenty years ago, doctors told Jerry Shafir that his baby daughter, Kate, had celiac disease.

In 2007, when the FDA recommended a standard for gluten free foods, Shafir, who owns Kettle Cuisine, applied his expertise in the soup industry and experience in the celiac disease community to develop gluten-free versions, so Kate and everyone on a gluten-free diet could enjoy the same delicious, hearty and nutritious foods that other people take for granted.

The result was an impressive line of 10 different soups, chilies and chowders, six of which we tried – and loved: New England Clam Chowder, Angus Beef Steak Chili with BeansTomato Soup with Garden Vegetables, Thai Curry Chicken Soup, Chicken Chili with White Beans, and Chicken Soup with Rice Noodles. The soups are 10 ounces each and serve one person.

Taste, mouth-feel, aroma and ease of preparation surpassed expectations.

Mrs. Richardson’s Dessert Toppings Are Gluten-free

When Jovial Foods, Inc. offered us samples of their brand new gluten-free pasta they claimed had the taste and texture of authentic pasta, we looked forward to the opportunity to judge for ourselves.

We were pleasantly surprised.  This is an excellent pasta, virtually indistinguishable from regular pasta in flavor, color, shape and consistency.

We received five different varieties: Spaghetti, Penne Rigate, Fusilli, Capellini and Caserecce.

Most people who read my articles know this Examiner is a big fan of the gluten-free product line currently available from Kinnikinnick Foods. Kinnikinnick was the first company this Examiner found that made a retail line of gluten-free doughnuts, but this year Glutino got into the gluten-free doughnut making game and we felt it necessary to compare the brands and choose a winner.
