Gluten-Free Strawberry Heart Rice Crispie Bar Recipe

February 10th, 2011 by Teri Gruss, MS

Heart-shaped gluten-free strawberry rice crispie bars make a lovable Valentine’s Day treat!

I used freeze-dried unsweetened strawberries (purchased at Costco) but if you can’t locate this ingredient, substitute with your favorite dried fruit. Dried cherries or cranberries would look equally great in this Valentine’s Day-inspired recipe.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

December 28th, 2010 by Jennifer Harris

Most people who read my articles know this Examiner is a big fan of the gluten-free product line currently available from Kinnikinnick Foods. Kinnikinnick was the first company this Examiner found that made a retail line of gluten-free doughnuts, but this year Glutino got into the gluten-free doughnut making game and we felt it necessary to compare the brands and choose a winner. October 14th, 2010 by Jennifer Harris

Halloween is quickly approaching and it is important to take the time to determine which candies are gluten free.  We tend to give out gluten-free candies at our house as there are so many great ones from which to choose.  My favorite gluten-free candy has always been Reese peanut butter cups, so we always offer those to our trick-or-treaters.  We couldn’t have been happier to learn that Nature’s Path created a treat-sized version of their Lemur Peanut Choco Drizzle bars and we will be purchasing some to mix in with the more recognizable candies.  (more…)

August 30th, 2010 by Kimberly Bouldin

Trader Joe’s has a nice variety of gluten-free products available.  These products range from frozen waffles, to granola, Lara bars, brownie mix and bread.  One of the favorites for kids is the boxed macaroni & cheese.

Trader Joe’s gluten-free macaroni & cheese is very easy to make.  Similar to the Kraft macaroni & cheese, the pasta is added to boiling water and cooked for 10 – 12 minutes.  While the pasta is cooking, the cheese mix is mixed with 1/4 cup of low-fat milk and stirred.  Once the pasta (more…)

Snyder's Gluten Free Pretzel Sticks

It’s always nice when you can find gluten free products in a “normal” grocery store; it’s downright exciting when a favorite regular-food brand puts out a gluten free food.  Such is the case with Snyder’s of Hanover’s new Gluten Free Pretzel Sticks.  After a couple of hiccups in getting the GF ball rolling, Snyder’s new pretzel sticks have been certified by the GFCO (Gluten Free Certification Organization) and each bag clearly shows the GIG (Gluten Intolerance Group) seal of approval.  According to GFCO, their goals is to provide “a uniform system, using strict standards to certify a product gluten-free and enables people to easily identify GF foods with confidence.” (more…)
