Canyon Bakehouse Expands Distribution to Target Stores Nationwide

canyon bakehouse gluten freeCanyon Bakehouse has entered into a partnership with Target retail stores to carry its gluten-free bread on bakery shelves at more than 750 locations across the country. Four loaf varieties of their bread, 7-Grain, Mountain White, Deli Rye, and Cinnamon Raisin, will be offered for $5.49 per loaf. Made with 100 percent whole grains and only clean ingredients, Canyon Bakehouse breads are made artisan-style, providing healthy gluten-free options the whole family can enjoy.

Christi and Josh Skow, and co-owner Ed Miknevicius, opened Canyon Bakehouse in November 2009 to make gluten-free breads for the Rocky Mountain Region of Whole Foods. Since then, their products are carried in more than 4,000 stores across the nation, including additional Whole Foods Market stores, Kroger, and Publix.

“This is an exciting opportunity to provide consumers with a healthier, tastier and more convenient option for finding gluten-free breads,” said Christi Skow, co-founder and owner of Canyon Bakehouse. “I was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2007 so I understand the need for breads that taste ‘real’ and don’t make me compromise on taste, texture or quality, and that’s really what we’re here to provide.”

I have been a fan of Canyon Bakehouse’s gluten-free breads since their beginning. Their breads are full of whole grains and they taste fabulous. Their deli rye is my personal favorite, but their 7-Grain and Cinnamon Raisin breads are a close second. I have taken their hamburger buns with me to Nantucket to enjoy lobster rolls, but now their hot dog buns will make the trip.

I just received a sample package of their breads and I was able to try their hot dogs buns for the first time. The products were shipped frozen, but arrived thawed, so we enjoyed them fresh for about a week before transferring them over to the freezer. For those of you who have never tried their products, their breads are soft with a firm crust and they don’t crumble or have a strange aftertaste, rather they just taste like bread. Their hot dog buns didn’t need to be heated and they paired nicely with a hot dog. For fun, I heated a hot dog bun along with the hot dog and the result was a perfectly steamed bun that reminded me of the ones I used to enjoy at Wrigley Field.

Canyon Bakehouse bread are sold at room temperature on bakery shelves, which is a first gluten-free bread. According to the company, their breads are shipped frozen and they thaw in transit, so once they hit shelves they have a solid week of freshness. What a treat to be able to buy gluten-free bread in the bakery section and know it will remain fresh on the counter for a week, just like regular bread!

I personally have been impressed with the selection of gluten-free products being offered at Target. I have found freezer items, Evol Foods bowls and new burritos and Blake’s All Natural Foods chicken pot pie (only place I have found it locally) and shelf stable products like Angie’s Popcorn, Tazo Tea, and Cook Simplemeals. I really hope Target expands their offerings to include more Canyon Bakehouse products, like their Focaccia and Hamburger and Hot Dog Buns.

Check out the store finder to see which Target stores are carrying their breads because they appear to be available only at Super Target stores.

Have you tried Canyon Bakehouse’s gluten-free breads? What did you think?

  1. Canyon Bakehouse bread is my favorite! The flavor is so good. I love the raisin bread. I even made stuffing at Thanksgiving with the 7 grain bread and it was better than any stuffing I’ve ever had. I wish I could find more off their products.

  2. Gluten kills or Monsanto Kills?
