What the Gluten-Free Diet and Kim Kardashian’s Baby Have in Common

Yes, you did just read that title correctly.

Kimye’s baby and the gluten-free diet have a few things in common. What are they you may ask? Well, here ya go:

It takes about 9 months to grow on you

Just like Kimye’s baby, the gluten-free diet isn’t second nature right when it’s sprung on you. At first you’re completely overwhelmed, thinking of how different life will be now, but you gradually get used to the idea of the whole thing. You get into a routine and oftentimes change your habits.

I’m sure motherhood is the same way (although I don’t want to find out for another 7-10 years).

The media gives it more and more attention each day

You already couldn’t open up a magazine without seeing Kim and Kanye, and now Kim’s pregnancy has exponentially increased public interest. This baby already has entertainment news sites all over it and it doesn’t even have a name yet!

The gluten-free diet is the same way…kind of. Three years ago, when I told someone I was gluten-free, I was greeted with a blank stare, and then my favorite question, “So that means you can’t have glucose?”

Now, with the constant news articles, celebrity exposure, and healthy trends highlighting the diet (not that I agree with them all), people know what the termgluten-free means.

It gives you weird cravings

I can only imagine the requests Kanye is going to get (and then give his personal assistant) in the middle of the night from Kim. I’ve heard of some strange pregnancy cravings, and Kim K isn’t immune to this. Her taste-buds are going to want foods she may have not longed for before. It’s all a part of the process.

Before I went gluten-free, I didn’t crave the things I do now. My taste-buds changed as I was on the diet, partly because I couldn’t have some of my old favorites, and partly because I matured through the whole ‘going gluten-free’ process.

Forces you to love a new lifestyle

Kim might not be driving her lambo too often now that she has to haul a baby seat around. Things change when you have a little one, and you have to change along with them. She will most likely swap her favorite boutiques for the designer equivalent of Baby Gap, and the selfies we used to see on her Instagram will most likely change to baby pics.

A lot is going to change for Kim. She is going to find things that seem more important now than they used to. The same thing happens when someone goes on the gluten-free diet. Certain things don’t seem as important anymore, and you begin to value your health more than a doughnut or pint of beer.

Creates a new reality 

You are no longer the bread basket hoarder when dining out. When people ask what your favorite restaurant is, Olive Garden is most definitely not in the top 3 (even though they have a gluten-free menu), and you start craving lettuce wraps instead of deli sandwiches.

Changes happen and you learn to roll along with them when you’re on the gluten-free diet.
