Old Spice Actor Reveals Gluten-free Diet Secret on Tonight Show with Jay Leno

Isaiah Mustafa, the actor build best known for his impressive build, good humor and over-the-top bravado in the Emmy-nominated Old Spice commercials, recently revealed the diet he follows to achieve his chiseled physique on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

According to Mustafa, celebrity trainer Tony Horton has him on a diet that contains no alcohol, caffeine, processed sugar, animal products or gluten. Horton is the producer of the wildly popular workout videos, P90X.

Mustafa's revelation comes as no surprise to this reporter, as it was revealed by an associate some years ago that entertainment agents frequently tell their celebrity clients not to consume gluten or sugar up to 5 days before an interview so they do not look bloated on TV.

The gluten-free diet is required by people with celiac disease, a gluten allergy and other gluten sensitivity disorders. While there is no harm in removing gluten from the diet, anyone who experiences a rapid and noticeable improvement in health should contact their doctor to be tested for celiac disease as the antibodies the tests measure disappear within weeks on the gluten-free diet. Undiagnosed celiacs who try the gluten-free diet but resume eating gluten at a later date may experience different or lessened symptoms while underlying malabsorption of nutrients continues - leading to long term consequences such as auto-immune disorders, heart disease, cancer, permanent neurological impairment and osteoporosis.
