Smoothie King Offers Gluten-free Choices

by Kimberly Bouldin on September 20th, 2010

The idea for Smoothie King started back in the late 1960′s in the home of Steve Kuhnau.  Kuhnau was trying to remedy his allergies and low blood sugar and began to experiment with blending fruits, nutrients and proteins in a blender.  In 1973, Kuhnau opened a health food store selling his smoothies & vitamins and Smoothie King was born.  Smoothie King has grown to over 600 locations in the US and Seoul, Korea.  Smoothie King’s mission is “To relentlessly influence and help more & more people achieve a healthier lifestyle.”

There are many gluten-free smoothies available on the menu at Smoothie King.  The smoothies can be as healthy as you choose to make them.  Starting at 180 calories for the Gladiator, with 45 grams of protein, all the way to 749 calories for the Peanut Power Plus Grape.  The nutritional chart is color coded for different types of smoothies:  Stay Healthy, Trim Down, Get Energy, Build Up, Snack Right, Indulge and Kids’ Kups.  Use this to cross reference with the gluten-free list.  As always, make sure to let the person preparing your smoothie aware of your need to eat gluten-free and make sure that a clean blender and utensils are used.

There are three Smoothie King locations in the Columbus area: Polaris ParkwayNorth High Street in the Worthington area and Hilliard off of Hilliard-Rome & Renner Rds.

Smoothie King has locations nationwide.  Click here to find a location near you.
