According to the Centers for Disease Control, as of 2006, 33.1% of women were choosing to exclusively breastfeed their newborn from 0-3 months of age. At the one-year mark, only 22.7% of women were still breastfeeding their baby (non-exclusively).

The American Academy of Pediatrics Committee, the World Health Organization (WHO), the Canadian Pediatric Society, the Pediatric Society of New Zealand, and other similar organizations in various countries worldwide have all made statements on infant feeding and the appropriate time to introduce solid foods into a baby’s diet. The current consensus is that solid food should not be introduced until at least the age of 4-6 months, if not later. (more…)

Finding great tasting gluten free foods can be a struggle. More and more places are popping up all over that are mastering the skill of baking without gluten.

Katz’s Gluten Free from Monroe, NY recently sent me a box full of samples to review. Everything was simply delicious. I tried the chocolate chip cookies, samples of various breads, and their chocolate and cinnamon rugelech. All were beyond my expectations. (more…)

Gluten-free Tiramisu Recipe with Shabtai Lady Fingers

Tiramisu has always been one of my favorite indulgences since my first trip to Italy, in the late 80s, and trying the real thing. The key is having the right cream, because without that, it just tastes like something mass produced you would expect to find in a grocery store.

Of course the lady fingers are a main ingredient as well, and being gluten-free, that become a new challenge. Luckily, I had a box of Shabtai Lady Fingers on hand, so I was good to go! I decided to forgo the usual raw egg in the cream, because that just doesn’t sound appetizing the more I learn about food. The whipped heavy cream takes the place of the raw eggs in this recipe. P.F Chang’s to Debut New Gluten-free Menu in March

P.F. Chang’s is getting ready to debut their newly revised gluten-free menu on March 8, 2010. P.F. Chang’s has added a number of menu items to the gluten-free menu. Some of those items include:
