Target Offers Gluten Free Groceries

Deitemeyer_Trish_Philadelphia_PA

targetdogIt’s not often you can walk into and store and walk out with batteries, cute socks, mascara and gluten-free donuts, but that’s exactly what I did last week at the Target in Plymouth Meeting (2250 Chemical Road, Plymouth Meeting, PA). Their newly expanded grocery department has a great selection of GF products, some old favorites and some I’d never heard of before.

In the freezer section, they had two types of Kinnikinnick donuts, maple and vanilla glazed; lots of Amy’s entrees and pizzas and Ian’s chicken nuggets and fish sticks; and assorted breads and waffles. In the baking ingredients aisle, they had all varieties of Betty Crocker Gluten-Free mixes, at a very reasonable everyday price of 3.99 each. There were lots of other mixes on the shelves, like Pamela’s and Namaste. Amy’s GF mac and cheese was stocked, as well as at least 5 different types of pasta and plenty of ready-to-heat and condensed soups. Should you develop a cookie craving while you’re shopping for towels and sheets, you can find animal crackers, chocolate chippers and more.

Kudos to Target for looking out for those of us who can’t eat gluten!

  1. That sounds like a lot of high sugar/high GI gluten free junk food!

  2. some of us don’t have the choice but to eat gluten free so being able to go to a local/cheaper store for GF items (sorry sometimes we have no choice but to chose conveience food albeit high sugar gluten free junk according to feed the earth) I am happy that target is stepping on board and they will get my business! I wish Walmart would step it up a notch!

Now if Feed the Earth would like to develop a line of healthy gluten free options I would also be on board to buy them. Til then I have to be happy I have food available for my family of five with Celiac Disease.

  3. Actually, the Wal-Mart has a good selection of GF items in their store. There are numerous baking mixes, pasta, cereal bars, crackers, etc. I have found Wal-Mart to be very helpful in finding GF items!
