Mainstream gluten free foods in the store

Where can you shop for gluten-free foods if you don’t have a Whole Foods Market or specialty health food store near you? Try your good old grocery store.

First, it is important to remember that most basic foods are gluten-free. There is no reason you can’t make a delicious and nutritious meal from fruits, vegetables and meats. You should actually be eating this way every day to ensure you are eating healthy food options. You can even purchase rice, potatotes, corn and items to make a marinade, and you will almost always have a great gluten-free meal.

But if you want to purchase something that is already made for you, life is looking up for the mainstream gluten-free shopper. Many companies’ products are inherently gluten-free. The question will be, are they made in a gluten-free facility – probably not. You need to to decide for yourself how sensitive you are to possible contamination from the facility. Many companies use good manufacturing practices and clean their machinery when processing a food containing a major allergen, such as wheat.

Here a few items that are considered to be gluten-free and should be available at most major grocery chains. These items were considered to be gluten-free at the time of writing this article. Please double check each item before making a purchase.

For an extensive list of main-stream items, go to www.ceceliasmarketplace.com to review and purchase the Gluten Free Grocery Guide. This is a great resource for lists of gluten-free items.
